I am interested in how students solve computational data analysis problems, specifically, how they build their understanding of ordered data structures. I used Resource Theory for this work, initially developed by Hammer (2000) in Physics Education Research.
Resource Theory
A professional programmer’s job isn’t to necessarily write new programs from scratch; they need to know what tools are available and how to use them effectively. They have many tools at their disposal, but they need to figure out which one(s) will be useful. The resources framework takes a similar view to student learning; it focuses on the tools students already possess and looks for ways to leverage them to help students learn complex concepts.
Applications
My computation education research results will be presented at SIGCSE 2023 in Toronto.
